Welcome to the web page of the Dundee Thistle cycling club. The club caters for all levels of cycling whether you are a racing/sportive enthusiast or a more casual rider looking to keep fit and enjoy the social side of cycling.
We have two evening runs on week nights aimed at all levels and a weekend run on Sundays. The evening runs are all all roughly 20 miles over varying terrain. Club runs are open to all so you don't need to initially be a member of the club to join in on the fun.
Runs on Tuesday and Thursday leave from Invergowrie at 6pm. Tuesday is a flat route which does a loop around the Errol/Carse of Gowrie roads while Thursday is a more hilly route and takes in the Knapp road to Tullybackart and back to Dundee through Muirhead.
NEW! Wednesday Night All You Can Ride Chain Gang Buffet Ride under floodlights at the velodrome for a chain gang where you can get dropped as many times as you like. Open house from 6ish to 7.45pm, £3 to pay for the track and lights. Ride at your own pace on your own road bike. The velodrome has parking, toilets, changing etc. Simple rules - 1. Road bikes only. 2. Ride anticlockwise. 3. slower riders keep right (up the banking so you always pass on the left (inside) 4. Be aware of those around you and don't make sudden changes in pace or direction.
During the summer months we have a more competive Wednesday night APR training session which starts from Tinkies Brae (Lundie road) on the Dundee/Muirhead to Newtyle road.
Weekend club runs leave every Sunday at 9.30 from Camperdown Country Park gates where a number of clubs meet and there is time for a bit of friendly chat. The Camperdown Country Park can be found just off the Kingsway at the UGC cinema. Typically the club runs will vary in length from 50 to 80 miles and will almost always have a cafe stop. Most runs head west towards the A9 towns of Dunkeld and Pitlochry.
Informal meetings are held after 8 pm every Thursday at Lochee Boys Club in Lochee, Loons road. A general meeting is held on the first Thursday of each month.
Mostly we put on road runs but have an active mountain biking group which meets at 6:30PM every Tuesday. The route can vary although we generally meet at the Tay bridge and do a ride to Tensmuir forest through Tayport.
