Welcome to the web pages of the Dundee Thistle cycling club. The club caters for all levels of cycling whether you are a racing/sportive enthusiast or a more casual rider looking to keep fit and enjoy the social side of cycling. We are usually out on our bikes or blethering on the forum which is where you will find all the latest action. Check out the calendar to see what is happening and drop by the forum for the latest info on any last minute changes or updates.
Club runs
The thistle have four evening runs a week aimed at different levels and a weekend run on Sundays. The evening runs are all all roughly 20 miles over varying terrain. Club runs are open to all so you don't need to be a member of the club to join in on the fun.
Runs on Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm from Invergowrie run at the pace of the slowest rider. Tuesday is a flat route to Errol while Thursday takes in the Knapp road to Tully.
Thursday night at 7pm from the Lochee Boys club (see location on the map below). The thursday night training run sets off from the boys club, out past longforgan, up through knapp village to tully and back into dundee, setting of at 7pm sharp and taking around 1hr 10mins depending on the conditions! To reach the Lochee boys club take Wellbank Lane first left off Loons road just off Lochee Bypass / Lochee Road. A map of the showing the location of the clubhouse is shown below.
During the summer months we have a more competive Tuesday night training session which starts from Tinkies Brae (Lundie road) on the Dundee/Muirhead to Newtyle road.
Club runs leave every Sunday at 9.30 from Camperdown Country Park gates where a number of clubs meet and there is time for a bit of friendly chat. The Camperdown Country Park can be found just off the Kingsway at the UGC cinema. Typically the club runs will vary in length from 50 to 80 miles and usually will have a cafe stop. Most runs head west towards the A9 towns of Dunkeld and Pitlochry, with a nice cafe stop at Kate's tea rooms which are very accomodating to bikes and have a good selection of cakes for those needing an energy boost!
Social
Informal meetings are held after 8 pm every Thursday at Lochee Boys Club with a general meeting held on the first thursday of each month. A training run is held every thursday night before the meeting in winter and complemented by training at the local hard track at caird park in the summer months.
Mostly we put on road runs all though we have always organised off road runs and can introduce you to some excellent local routes around the sidlaws which is the hilly range just north of dundee
