The first club meeting of the new year, happy new year to all riders in Dundee. A busy night, two meetings were held at the club, the first meeting focusing on increasing the number of riders in the club and a normal club meeting.

Present; Stuart Allen (Chairman), Chris McClements (Secretary), Alistair Chisholm, Phil Morris, Fraser Marr, Dave Martin, Brian Sproul, Neil Crawford, Mike Burnett, Chris McGriffin, Lionel Wylie.

Last months minutes were still lost in the Christmas mayhem, so on to this months business.

Christmas Lunch Run

The annual Christmas lunch run took place on the 20th December. 10 hardy riders braved the snow, ice and downright hard as nails riding. Around 40-45 wheelers and thistle riders sat down to the meal and 143 pounds, up from 80 pounds last year, was raised in the raffle which was organised by Brian. Pictures are available here.

Wheelers Boxing Day 10

The wheelers boxing day 10 took place on the 26th. A shortened course was used due to snow and ice at the turn at the top of tully. Well out ahead was Derek Clark followed Phil Brown on his mountain bike! 6 Thistle riders completed the course and Dave Martin was first home. I missed out but I am sure a few pints were downed in the Birky afterwards.

Cyclist vs Harriers

The anual Dundee cyclists versus Harriers runners took place on the 27th in some very cold and snowy/icy conditions. The event takes place on circuit around Caird park, with various hazards/obstacles for both disciplines to navigate. This year the conditions favoured the runners as they stormed home well before the cyclists, in fact, the first cyclist home was in 14th place.

Thistle Stage Race 2010

The Thistle 2 day stage race is due to be held on the 29th-30th May, or possibly the weekend before. As always getting marshalls and helpers for the day is a problem so add the dates to your diary. The event was massively popular last year and any help will be greatly appreciated.

Criterium Update

Dave Martin updated the club on his progress in organising a new city centre criterium event for Dundee. The criterium will take place arround the Brown Street area of Dundee and will be focused on providing a family atmostphere as well as a circuit for elite and amatuer riders. All Daves meetings so far have been positive, with the possibility of a mass partiticipation ride or the popular SkyRide which has been taking place throughout the country. Dave is working on getting sponsorship for the event. Dave is currently liasing with the local community to sort out possible access conflicts with businesses in the area.

Everyone thanked Dave for his efforts and offered to help in any way possible.

Lord Provost Reception

The Dundee Thistle 80th anniversary reception is to be held at Caird Hall in Dundee city centre. Stuart is arranging dates for the event and invitations or a note in the Courier will be arranged closer to the date.

Club Fees

Phil reminded everyone that 2010 club fees are due. The yearly club fees are £20.
